I successfully modified my UA-5 to do standalone A/D conversion. Because playback from the computer connected to the USB port will not work after the A/D result is fed to the digital outputs, I included an ON-ON flip switch to enable and disable the modification. It works like a charm! Yes, I know my soldering skills aren't excellent. 8-)

IF YOU BREAK YOUR UNIT, YOU CAN KEEP BOTH PIECES. Opening up the box will void your warranty and you can only blame yourself if the thing breaks. I definetely do not recommend doing this modification unless you really, really know what you're doing.
